Importance of setting a Goal

Would you go on a 250 mile journey without knowing where you were headed? Why then is it acceptable to go through life without a plan?

You need a plan! And here are top reasons why you do.

Reason 1 – It gives you direction and purpose.
Ever watch a football game? The whole game is geared towards scoring the goal and defeating the opponents. All players work as a team and are caught up in somehow getting the ball to the other side and inside the net. For those 90 minutes of play, nothing else matters in their life. Perhaps it is a single vision and in real life that will not work but that does not change anything for those 90 mins.

Reason 2 – It concentrates your energy.
You start questioning why or how something you do delivers your goal to you. In a really weird way, when you take up tennis you suddenly find yourself bumping into people who play tennis. And when you concentrate your energy toward meeting your goal you will find people who are as determined as you to get that ball inside the net. That is because there is a concentration of energy in your areas of interest and it becomes a magnet for similar energy.

Reason 3 – It unites your mind, body and soul.
Your mind, sub-conscious mind and conscious mind, all work together to achieving your goal. When these three things combine for a common purpose, the result is almost guarenteed. Solutions come to you even when you are sleeping because while your conscious mind rests, your sub-conscious mind is still tied up in getting you to your destination. The direct connection between mind and body is proven time and time again. Imagine the strength that you get when these two forces – that transcend comprehension – work together for a common purpose.

Reason 4 – It gives strength and motivation.
A desire to achieve your goal will by itself give you the strength and motivation you need to overcome the difficulties you will face. Problems become hurdles rather than obstacles and your mind gets engaged in thinking solutions rather than accepting defeat. It generates more positive energy.

Reason 5 – Makes you a stronger person.
Think about it! You draw your strength from your passions. And passions are nothing more than concentrated energy. And if your goal is your passion then the chase is bound to make you see things in a

more optimistic manner and become a stronger person in life.

Remember that life does not come with a “How to” guide. It is best effort basis. But the best effort can be that much more successful if there is a direction to work in. Without direction and a sense of purpose, even a bird will lack the motivation to look for food and build nests. And like a Football game, when you play the game of life, remember to enjoy the journey because the fun is in the journey – not in the destination. Sometimes a game you lose is far more enjoyable than several that you may have won.

Closing thought: Without the need to score a goal, what would be the point in playing the game.

Goals are good, this way we know where to place our attentions and efforts. what ever or where ever we place our attention and effort is the direction that we will go. at times we might get off track and follow the wrong path but if we keep our goal in mind then we will hopefully notice that we are off track and redirect ourselves.

I am really enjoying all of your writings. I’m glad to have found your site.
    Best, Ellen
